ARGH!
i am so stupid!!
when i registered to vote in oregon, i registered as 'unaffiliated', just as i had done in north carolina. and in north carolina, during primary races the unaffiliated voter can choose which ballot they want to fill out: repugnican, democrat or non-partisan.
apparently, oregon doesn't operate in the same manner. by registering unaffiliated, i am *only* eligible to vote for non-partisan races and for ballot measures. i received my ballot in the mail on friday (oregon votes exclusively by mail) and THERE IS NO PRESIDENTIAL RACE ON MY BALLOT.
meaning i cannot vote for obama.
i am heartsick.

Argh is right! Is there no way you can vote provisionally or something? Change your affiliation? Anything???
(off to the polls here shortly myself--you've got peeps back here voting for your candidate. Or at least one peep)
At least you found out before November.... if you can't vote for him, maybe call and see if there's someplace you can hold a sign for a while, or voters you can drive to the polls--or take pics of happy Obama voters for the New York Times Polling Place Photo Project.
i am going to call the election board today and ask about the provisional ballot... thanks for the idea, stew.
and penny... i have decided that when my economic stimulus check arrives i'm going to make a big donation to barack's campaign.
i really like the idea of giving bush's money to obama.

Yeah, stimulus money to Obama--I suspect you're not the only one with that plan; and I hope it's a popular decision that can really make an impact.
Oh--and did you know I was an precinct judge in Durham? Just for the 1994 primary, my job was to certify the results (with another judge) at the polling place near (on?) the Duke campus. Lots of students on the rolls there. I had to stay in the building from 6am until all the ballots were accounted for and certified. It was a good experience.

no, joy, the nc board of rigged elections does not really call the repugnicans repugnicans. christa borrowed that put-down from me. i in turn picked it up from a fellow libertarian, who calls the other wing of the incumbent party the demobrats.
i did thence coin "repugnibrats." the nice version is "demopublicans," legit shorthand for "democrats and republicans collectively." the people who want bigger govt, basically.
annual federal spending has increased for 42 straight years, no matter which wing controls which branch.
