scheduling
i've got about 6 weeks here. maybe less.
there are several going-away parties planned, but i know i won't have the opportunity to have any in-depth conversations at those events. it would be really nice to have some smaller, more intimate get-togethers before i leave.
several people have approached me with invitations like, "give me a call before you go so we can have dinner or something." and i've got to say that sort of offer isn't cutting it right now. i need specifics. suggest a date, an activity. make it happen. my schedule is filling up and i've had 15 "give me a call" invitations that i don't have the time to nail down. i'm trying to sell my house, quit my job, pack my stuff, find a place to live, get utilities turned on... and 18,000 other time-consuming tasks. it would help greatly if i didn't also have to add to my to-do list, "make sure to remember to call XXX before leaving town." i would love to see you, but i need you to do some of the legwork for me right now.
man, i woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

It's stress...
Reframe in your mind the psuedo-invites to call before you go as a stand-alone "I love you" notes that you don't need to act on. That might alleviate the stress. Not calling people does NOT mean you don't appreciate them and/or want to spend time with them. It just means you have 18,000 time-consuming tasks to do.
And kudos to you for telling people what you need!
Hey -- you've just figured out a breakthrough solution to my quandary about goodbye-discomfort: grumpineness! ;-)
In any case, I hereby declare that I won't pester you for a date before you split - in part because I plan to visit Portland later this year, and guess who I'm going to pester for a date, then?
Xta, it is totally fine and appropriate for you to ask people to suggest specific times/places if they want to see you. Yay for you for speaking up about it!!
So, give me a call, let's have lunch sometime, 'k?
KIDDING!!!!!!
one of the many reasons I'm glad we're going to do those last few divaville shows together (wow, put like that it makes me go *sniffle*) is that I'll get to see you several times before you go, without having to impose on any of your time in these hectic weeks. it's a win-win!
I promise I'm not going to ask you to call me before you leave - I don't even use the phone!
(but any of your large, impersonal gatherings of friends? put me on the list)
