she's gone

i put mary on a plane this afternoon. we both cried. i'll miss her terribly, of course... she's one of my best friends on earth. but almost more than that was the realization that i am now alone here.

so i drove straight from the airport to the radio station. i found my desk, signed paperwork, got a brief orientation, and shadowed the on-air announcer for a few minutes to get re-acclimated to the studio.

i am now very tired, somewhat hungry, and am heading back to my apartment for a glass of much-needed wine.

my apartment. it's mine. i may not have cable tv or the internets yet, but it's mine. and as the boxes are getting cleared out, it feels more and more like home. even though a big part of "home" just got on an airplane and flew away.

I wish I was there having that glass of wine with you. We could contemplate places to get a pedicure tomorrow morning.

It's hard to figure out what to say, but I want to say something. In solidarity or something. xxoo

actually, right after i posted that, a couple of co-workers took me out for drinks and a bite to eat. we had a fantastic time, and split a bottle of prosecco and a pizza three-ways.

then i came home and my friend todd called me up ad wanted to take me out for drinks. yes yes yes, i said! more booze! ;-)

it was a great night, though... a lovely first evening alone in portland.
