t-minus one
the day before the new job begins.
i was determined to get the tivo working this morning. i had a lot of difficulty with it yesterday and finally just gave up in a fit of frustration. it only took me an hour or so to figure out how to fix it (though frankly i don't really understand what i did today that was any different from what i did last night), and now the tee-vee is fully operational. funny how much homier the place feels now. (though i must say the tv looks SUPERHUGE in my tiny apartment.)
i did some more unpacking, getting my desk space in order. paid some bills. reconciled my checking account (have i mentioned how stupidly expensive it is to move??). freecycled my used cardboard boxes. talked on the phone.
then i decided to walk up the street to get a cup of coffee. i also stopped in a shoe store and when i asked if they carried wide widths they said, "yes, in birkenstocks."
*sigh*
one more block up broadway to my local wine shop, where i had a nice conversation with one of the proprietors. he hooked me up with a rosé prosecco (!) and a vinho verde. it's going to be SO nice having a wine shop within stumbling distance of my house.
i needed to go to the grocery store, too, and decided to try a new place. (within a 5 mile radius of my house is a safeway, wild oats, and new seasons. i went to new seasons.) i bought a few things, but kept it to *just* a "few things"... my pantry is tiny and i'm going to have to start shopping like i've got a small kitchen.
i brought the food home and decided to cook my first meal in my apartment. (so far i've been eating out, and eating leftovers from eating out.) i made some chicken basil sausage, sauteed some red peppers and mushrooms and created a pizza. it was tricky, though... my stove is very weird:
what you think is the oven is actually the dishwasher. the oven is above the stove. it's old. it's strange. plus it's gas, which i'm completely unaccustomed to. i burned my pizza a little (and almost burned my hands, too, because lord knows where my potholders are), but in the end i had a nice little meal:
and now i desperately need to go to bed. i've got a big day tomorrow, and i need some serious sleep.

how was the rose prosecco? i am curious!
i hope the first day at the new job goes well.
LOVED it!!
i'd never heard of such a thing as rosé prosecco, and decided to give it a go, based on his recommendation. it helps that it was only about $13, too.
woo!
I've tried a rosé prosecco once or twice. Oh, if only I'd had a bunch of that in high school -- I would have been a popular boy with the misses! ;-)
One of my restaurant-owning friends once said that "Smirnoff Ice was created solely for the purpose of getting sorority girls drunk." Rosé prosecco would seem a much more sophisticated option, I think. (At least they'd feel some obligation to use a glass.)
That 'za looks good; you'll get used to the gas eventually. Buena suerte!
think your oven is weird? when I turn my oven on, it also turns on the right rear burner.
ray i've got figured out ubinger
that is the *strangest* stove/oven/dishwasher layout i've ever seen!
the birkenstock line made me laugh... welcome to the pacific northwest!
I like vinho verde! We tasted some at the Weaver Street wine tasting thingy earlier in the year.
I am enjoying reading about your settling-in. I think about you every day!
I am buying some decent beer and some decent wine this payday.
It's settled.
And i'm coming over to your house for pizza.
