things i'm doing

let's see... what have i been up to?

i'm playing again with the awful orchestra. after this concert, i just have to quit. i'm happy to be playing my horn, but this whole experience is just too painful.

the reel music festival is ending this weekend. the slim gaillard films were quirky and fun. i saw chet baker's "let's get lost" last night and while i recommend the film you need to be prepared for a big downer. today i'm watching a film about nina simone.

i made an offer on another house. it was far and away the nicest house i've seen so far, and i was really really really excited about it. i saw it within the first 18 hours of it going on the market, and by hour 36 the house was sold. it was a bidding war amongst 4 potential buyers. i bid higher than i probably should have, and still didn't get it. i'm kind of bummed about it -- the house had a lot of space, and was right across the street from a fantastic park in north portland -- but i guess i didn't get it for a reason. right?

i'm heading out right now for brunch at roux. new orleans-style food for mardi gras...

oh my god, i just got back from my brunch, and i have to gush about what i ate: "creole grits & grillades"... pork loin and spicy tomato 'gravy' over white cheddar cheese grits.

absolutely spectacular.
