age
hey, guess what? today was my 6-month anniversary at this new job. 6 months! time flies.
i went to my new gynecologist today. i like her MUCH better than my north carolina gynecologist. though, honestly, this one could be a fire-breathing, 8-legged toad and i'd still like her better than my north carolina gynecologist.
anyway, she tells me i need to get a baseline mammogram. eh!?! no way! i'm only 38! i guess the new school of thought is to not wait until 40, but to get a baseline between the ages of 35-40, while the breast tissue is still young and healthy.
so i've got an appointment for a boob-squishing a week from today. whee.
and speaking of age, i turn 39 at the end of february, and i'm finding it so incredibly sad that i won't be having my traditional big birthday bash this year. for starters my apartment holds, like, 3 people. so no party here. i might be able to convince someone to throw a party for me, but that seems kind of pathetic.
so i don't know what i'll do for my birthday. i'm thinking the loverboy concert at the coast is not exactly what i want to do, though. i think i want to be around a lot of people. some kind of celebration of the fact that i *do* have friends here.

My doctor told me to get one two years ago - I was like "no! I'm too young! you can't make me!"
Early last year I got a letter to come back in for a yearly check, and when I told them I had extenuating circumstances and wouldn't be coming in, the woman on the phone seemed both surprised and a little bitchy. Whatever :-)
Hey, baseline = good. :)
After having a dust-up in my 30s (biopsy under anesthesia--wheee!), I was relieved when it came time to get the annuals without having to twist any arms over it. Gimme my appointment-I'm over 40, dammit. :) Glad your GYN is tolerable!
And happy early B-day!
Here's my mammogram hint--bring something interesting to look at, and a piece of tape. My mammogram office is nice but BORING, and I need all the help I can get to stay still--so next time I'm bringing something to look at, and taping it to the wall. Pictures of my kids (you can bring niece pics), cartoons, something funny to read, anything but a tasteful but blank pastel wall!
I just had my baseline mammogram done ... actually, on the same day you arrived in CO for your delicious visit. My general practitioner recommended the baseline during a physical, and I was only too happy to comply because there's all kinds of cancer on my dad's side of the fam.
It wasn't nearly as bad as I'd been led to believe. Not bad at all, in fact. Though young Gibbers is a Hoover nurser and also likes to reach down my shirt and squeeze with all his little might. So being squished is all relative, I guess.
As for your fabulous birthday, why not "host" a cocktail party at your favorite bar?
xoxo
