welcome home
this sign was in the lobby when i walked into the station this morning. along with a dozen pink roses.
how awesome is that??
my first shift went pretty well. nothing spectacular, i'm afraid, but i think i delivered a good, solid air-shift. i got about a dozen emails and phone calls from listeners around the world (some of whom followed me from my old station), and all were equally welcoming and flattering.
the four hours in the studio flew by. then there was a staff meeting/pizza party (the best way to get people to a meeting is to feed them, apparently) where i feel like i got about 2 years worth of information dumped into my brain.
i walked to work (and walked home) and the commute if i cut through the mall is about 20 minutes -- 5 minutes faster than if i have to walk around the mall. (i don't yet know if the mall doors open early enough for me to cut through on the way to work, so i walked around this morning.)
no bother... walking around the mall makes it possible for me to stop in one of the many amazing coffee shops in my neighborhood.
feelin' good.

I only count 11 roses there.
Thought of you and the She Said clan today while watching some crazy TV show about the Portland underground near the waterfront (where all sorts of very bad things happened to people in the 1800s).
Lovely start to your work!
And all the WALKING. Stupendous.
I felt like that when I started my new job.........so......
welcomed.
It was unbelievable.
Shopping malls are the new athletic tracks. Some malls open as early as 6 am (the mall, not the stores) for walkers who do laps. Some even have special programs.
i decided to walk through the mall this morning, not sure whether any doors would be open at 7:40am. sure enough, there were. largely because of the ice rink on the lower level. there were many young girls practicing their skating routines.
so i had no trouble getting in. the larger issue was getting out. i would normally cut through macy's for the most direct route, but they're not open at that early hour. so i had to leave via one of the public entrances. in doing so i walked right past the starbucks in the mall, which was PACKED. apparently every person who cuts through the mall in the morning stops and gets a cup of coffee on their trip through the joint.
funny.
