wind down
so, i mentioned that mom and i were going to go to see a jazz show saturday night. we did. it was great, and the club was really cozy. i found it a pretty amazing experience, actually. i can't wait to go back.
before that, though, we went up to the international rose test gardens. this place is unspeakably beautiful. mom was in awe.
there's no way that photo can even begin to capture how huge this place is. a couple of acres *jam packed* full of roses. amazing varieties, breathtaking colors, sweet fragrances. a spectacular view of the city, too.
so, now we're up to sunday. mom's last day. relatively speaking it was an uneventful day given how busy the rest of her visit was.
we drove up to centralia, washington (halfway between seattle and portland) to meet an old friend of hers for lunch. a cute little cafe called berry fields. we had a nice visit (and i had a spectacular bacon/pineapple/swiss cheeseburger), drove home, and were back at the apartment by 4pm.
the only other activity we had scheduled was at 8pm (her "date" with my co-worker), so we just lounged about. i actually took a nap (i'm traditionally a horrible napper) and was uber relaxed by the time we were to meet edmund.
mom's date was so NOT a date in a lot of ways. i was chaperoning, for one thing. she enjoyed being with him regardless. we only had an hour together, then we headed back home where mom promptly crashed. she woke up at 3am to catch a plane back home. i took her to the airport at 4:30am... then i returned home and fell back asleep.
woo, eh? exciting last day of her visit. rah rah. it was nice, though, exploring town with her this weekend. she appreciated being my first visitor, and made great allowances for the instances where i didn't know where i was going, or exactly the best route between point A and point B.
today, after she left and after i slept a few more hours, i met a new friend downtown and we tromped about a bit, chatting in pioneer square, drinking fresh-squeezed lemonade in the sun.
i see the boy again tomorrow. it's been a week, and we're both missing each other terribly.
