catchup

so, from my photos you can probably tell that my mom was in town. we did lots of fun stuff and ate lots of good food.

i also took her to tony starlight's. anyone who visits will be taken to tony starlight's. what was really serendipitous about mom's visit was that tony was doing a neil diamond tribute show that weekend, and mom was (is!) a huge neil diamond fan.

in other news, i have a cavity. i'm going to have to get a filling. this was surprising news; i have had great teeth all my adult life (my only other cavity occurred at such a young age i can't even remember getting the filling). my new hip dentist told me that portland doesn't have fluoridated water (!) so people who grow up here generally have really bad teeth, and people who *move* here soon get bad teeth. i need to start using a fluoride rinse or something, i guess.

this was the fanciest dentist i've ever been to, by the way. they have high-falootin' ultra-sonic tools and digital x-rays. they also have a tv screen that they pull down right in front of your face so you can can veg out while they're cleaning your teeth. (they also give you the remote and invite you to channel surf.) AND! they give you free otis spunkmeyer cookies when you leave! (i guess they have to ensure that their customers keep coming back for fillings.)

let's see, what else is going on? i'm going to my first modern dance performance tomorrow night (i really miss ADF). on sunday i'm going to weird hippie thing in eugene called the oregon country fair. i'm hoping to go to a portland beavers game next week with stephen & his daughter. and he & i are going camping next weekend in a little town on the washington coast called chinook.

i could go on and on and on about this amazing man of mine, but i'll keep it short and just say that he loves taking me on romantic walks, revealing both the town and himself to me. the other night at powell butte he excused himself to go wee in the bushes, and came back a few minutes later with an amazingly beautiful improvised bouquet of grasses and flowers for me. i burst into tears.

Great to hear your news and to see your blog. Though it reminds me that we would have loved your company at a little blog dinner on July 4.

I am a big Neil Diamond fan too, but don't tell anyone.

Presuming the flowers didn't get "watered" before he picked them.

:)
