work
today was the first day that my job felt like work.
which isn't necessarily bad. it just finally felt like i deserved to be paid for what i was doing.
the phone rang at 7am. it was the morning announcer. he felt horrible, and asked if i could come in early to relieve him. i had plans to get my car to the shop (fixing the busted power locks), but told him that i would come to the station straight from the mechanic. so there you go. i clocked in early. that felt like work, for sure.
so my air shift was extra-long, but it finally felt like i'd found my groove. i'm sounding good, i think. not perfect, but more myself. when i got off the air my boss asked if i would mind producing monday night's 'new CD' show. i only started learning the editing software *yesterday*. but ok, sure. i can do that. so i sat right down and started choosing tracks and writing a script. in the middle of that i ate lunch at my desk, learned about the automation system, and got a brief lesson on how to switch between program feeds.
i left the building at 5:15pm, but not because my work was done... i had to pick up my car before they closed. when i walked outside it was a glorious day. i had completely missed it.
monday i'm swapping shifts with the afternoon guy. he's got a conflict. i'm flexible. and this means i can sleep a little later. but because i didn't finish producing the 'new CD' show, i've still got to get in by 10 to get that done.
between now & monday, though, is a work-related field-trip to a town called astoria, where the columbia river meets the ocean. (about a 3 hour drive.) i'll be hosting a symphony concert from the stage saturday night. i'll post about that on sunday.
work work work.
