what is happening to me!??!?

walking to work every day is GREAT... except none of my shoes are really up to the task. i've got a couple of minor blisters and spots on my heel that are rubbed raw. lots of bandaids on the toes right now.

so i made a huge order from zappos, and the most comfortable were these:

they're not birkenstocks, dammit. they're NOT.

Christa is *forced* to buy new shoes. Oh, the humanity! ;-)

I like the green in those straps... and they way the interlace at the criss-cross... they don't look too Birky. Maybe once your feet acclimate to Portland, all your old shoes will work again. Or you'll have to (gasp!) shop, like Phil says.

I live in Skechers bikers--several pair--because I live 20 blocks from the flagship store; except I had to retire the pair I wore to Pompeii last month, because the dust of the centuries is permanently embedded in their every pore.

they look more like tivas than birkenstocks-- you don't know your hippie shoes very well, but out in portland i am sure you will learn ;)

next it'll be fleece, and a shapeless gore-tex jacket... you'll be unrecognizable come winter!

Hey, what's wrong with Birkenstocks? I wear a pair to work almost every day.

there's nothing *wrong* with birkenstocks (except they're hideously ugly, imo)... it's just that i've spent a long time building up a supply of cute strappy sandals, and now i'm finding it hard to use them. i've always chosen cute shoes over practical shoes... and now i'm forced to bite the bullet and purchase shoes which do *nothing* for my appearance (i think they make my feet look horrid).

but i guess as far as practical shoes go, these chacos aren't bad. i wore them to work today, and OMG i'm going to have to buy a second pair... they're amazingly comfortable walking shoes.

I'm with Spacegrrl -- they look like Tevas. Kinda cute, unless you can't stand Tevas :)

Looks like you have a blister on your little toe! I got one there too, from wearing my Fluevog heels with no stockings.

you're not a true portlander until you've got at least one pair of chacos and one pair of keens.

(hi, by the way, i'm an old friend of stew's, and i live in portland)
