on the great migration of excellent birds

today's adventure took place downtown, a 15-minute (free) train ride away. it was a performance of music by rinde eckert... a work written for 500-voice choir. this was a portland-area volunteer choir, though, so only about 150 singers actually showed up to rehearse and participate. oh well.

it was a free concert, held in pioneer courthouse square, and the kickoff to the time-based art festival. TBA is a 10-day, multi-genre contemporary hoopla of what looks to be really thought-provoking performances and installations. this event tonight was hugely well-attended. my guess is that there were probably 1000 people watching these 150 singers (and 5 accordion players).

the chorus was asked to mimic birds, whistle, and flap papers around. there was some shouting and dramatic goofiness, too. quite a spectacle.
