money

divaville went well. the phone rang off the hook, but i didn't answer it at all. there was too much to get used to... new studio, new equipment, all of that. i've been told by the management that i don't have to answer the phone at all, but i loved the interactivity when i was at XDU. i'll see if i can manage the phone next week, maybe.

after the show, the operations director and i went to salty's for a drink and a bite to eat. it's right on the columbia river (which separates oregon from washington) right near the airport, and it is a cheesy tourist dive in just the right way. i had an AMAZING mojito (muddled!), really good calamari, and some great conversation. this ops guy at the jazz station also works at the classical station as a producer. he studied classical music in college. we have a lot in common. we're becoming good friends and are hanging out quite a bit.

today after work i met my friend amy for some shopping. i pass through the mall every day, but i don't yet know any of the boutiques in town. she took me up to alberta street and we visited ella's, where i bought a cute dress. i also bought a pair of footless tights, thinking i'd give this tights-beneath-the-skirt trend a try. i'll let you know how it works out.

i can sense that fall is on the way (today was chilly and misty) and i need to start thinking about out to outfit my wardrobe to make the most of the weather. i have great walking sandals (chacos), but need to find something closed-toe that will work in the damp. i also need to invest in a good rain jacket... i insist on something girly, which has been difficult to locate thus far.

anyway, after the trip to the boutique, amy and i visited a couple of other little shops in the neigborhood and then stopped in at the alameda cafe for a burger and a glass of wine.

home now, doing some much-needed laundry and catching up on a few day's worth of colbert reports. tomorrow i'm having lunch at the portland yacht club, believe it or not. then in the afternoon i'm playing a round of golf.

it sounds like i'm in a higher tax bracket than i really am.

Re: Girly rain jackets

How about a land's End Commuter coat in pink? http://www.landsend.com/pp/MacintoshCommuterCoat-78001_168481_59.html?CM_MERCH=PAGE_78001

I saw Tim Gunn on The View last week (my DVR catches all instances of Tim Gunn, anywhere) and he showed the most flirty, girly trench I've ever seen. Now can I remember where he said it was from? I'll have to get back to you on that. No wait, here it is, from bebe. But can you wear a dry-clean-only coat in the rain? Best to check on that.

Also: It shouldn't be called a mojito if it's not muddled!!

Oh I'm so sad that I missed divaville! I need to put a reminder in my calendar to tune in next week.

And yes, you DEFINITELY need a good raincoat (with a hood), if not a couple. I've got my REI workhorse, not fashionable at all, but keeps me dry and it's breathable, so I can bike in it without getting sweaty. And then I've got a couple of "cuter" raincoats for other occasions.

How about the Marmot Detinatin coat at REI? (http://www.rei.com/product/746712?vcat=REI_SSHP_WOMENS_CLOTHING_TOC) Not cheap, but it'll keep you dry for sure!

Also check nordstrom.com's coat shop. They've got some cute options.

Girl I have a bombass raincoat.
It's red and looks like patent leather.

When I wear it, it looks like I am in the MATRIX.
