two monthaversary

it's been two months since i got on a plane and moved to portland. all in all, i can honestly say that i'm happy with the decision i've made. there are times, of course, when i miss everyone so much that tears come to my eyes. i'd be lying if i said there weren't moments of sadness. but it is so easy to distract myself from those moments by simply turning around and looking at all the amazing things going on in this town. there is so much to explore, so many fantastic people to meet.

tonight, for instance, i went to an invitation-only CD release party for aaron meyer. this guy is a concert rock violinist who has issued what i believe is his first classical CD. he's only 35 years old, but the man is well connected and knows how to throw a seriously classy party. he shuttled people from their cars to the site in a white stretch limo, imported a chef from a 5-star restaurant in thailand to cook some amazing appetizers, offered plenty of free-flowing wine, and threw together the most interesting, eclectic mix of guests you could imagine. i met the assistant coach for the portland trailblazers and other high-falutin' movers and shakers about town. (yes, one of them hit on me, but i was able to deflect his unwanted advances by honestly saying that i had a boyfriend!)

it's a completely different life out here. i am really thriving in a lot of ways, but i miss you guys, too. though, hey... did you know that i'm going to be coming back for a visit soon? i'll be in durham october 17-20. i'll be working at my old station for a good part of each day, but i'll definitely be arranging some sort of get-together so i can see you all while i'm there!

Oh good! If it wasn't for your get-togethers I'd probably never see anyone :-)
